HENRY CLAY SMITH
May 20, 1856 - January 16, 1933
Parents: George W. and Martha Ellen (Durham) Smith

Wife - Sarah Olevia DURHAM (1872/1900)
Children: Henry Clay, Jr., and Ella May

What I know, for sure, about Henry Clay you could put on the head of a pin and still have room for the Gettysburg Address. I'm still pulling information. These are snippets of things I know and/or need to look up.

Henry worked on the RailRoad for a time.

He took over the house of his brother William A. after Will's divorce and move to Baltimore City, Maryland. That would have been about 1903.

His wife, Sarah, died young (38 years old). He took care of the kids alone. He lived in a little shack on Phillips Mill Road across from the mill on a small rise. The lady that grew up at the mill (daughter of the millwright - ???) said she could remember that beautiful flowers grew around that shack and that she always felt sorry for Mr. Smith - I think this was the time he was working on the RR.

The whole family (everybody mentioned on this page) is buried (or has burial plots) at William Watters Memorial Methodist Church Cemetery, Jarrettsville, Harford County, Maryland.

Sarah died of tuberculosis as the story goes. She contracted it while taking care of her brother-in-laws (Edwin W. SMITH) wife ?? Belle ?? who also had it. Sarah and ?? Belle died about the same time.

Henry and Sarah had two children;
Henry Clay SMITH, Jr. - (January 1, 1892/November 19, 1978). Married Mary Catherine POTEET (July 19, 1901/September 17, 1984). They had two children;
Frances Orem SMITH - (June 11, 1925/April 13, 1924). It would be interesting to find out where the name Orem came from.
Kathryn Olevia SMITH - (February 2, 1922/). She married L. Raymond AMOROSE (Jan 13, 1927/)
Ella May SMITH - (May 19, 1889/March 22, 1977). She married David Ellsworth BUSH (August 17, 1891/November 16, 1976). They had the following 4 children;
Lilburn Clay BUSH -
Charles Arnold BUSH -
Joan Juanita BUSH -
Alice Marie BUSH -
